Cannot share outlook calendar with gmail

Clear search WebThe subscribe to calendar option in Outlook allows me to view Google calendars but not enter an appointment which then syncs to Google. Is this really not possible to do automatically? I find it kind of like being able to view emails from a Gmail account in Outlook but not send them from Outlook, which would be ridiculous.
